Charles Mason Jr.

Executive Director

Charles is the Executive Director of City Youth Now. Charles previously founded and served as CEO of  Ubuntu Green a Sacramento-based non-profit that focused on addressing environmental and social justice, as well inspiring youth and community leadership and engagement. Charles previously worked for AARP in CA and Washington, DC as a policy advocate focusing on transportation, housing and environmental issues.

Charles has previously working on Capitol Hill in the offices of Senator Barbara Boxer, and Congressman Pete Visclosky. He has advocated for the social equity, transportation justice,  and civil rights through work with Urban Habitat, the Surface Transportation Policy Project, and the NAACP. In addition he opened and directed the government affairs office in Washington, D.C. of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, supporting funding and educational and professional opportunities for students attending historically black universities. He brings considerable development, board, community engagement, and leadership experience to our team.

Charles received B.A. in Political Science from California State University: Long Beach and a Masters in Public Policy and Administration from the California State University Sacramento, Graduate School of Public Policy and Administration. Charles also attended the George Washington University, Graduate School of Political Management, Howard University, and University of Maryland, College Park. Mr. Mason is the father of two lovely children, Miles and Yemaya. He is active in running, yoga, gardening, reading, cycling, kayaking, and writing.

Alyssa is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Behavioral Health at the University of San Francisco. Originally from the greater Los Angeles area, Alyssa earned her BA in Sociology from Loyola Marymount University, and brings professional experience in youth counseling, special event coordination, and social marketing. Her passion points include serving the needs of at-risk youth and issues pertaining to representation of marginalized communities in broader culture. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys volunteering with animal-based causes and visiting local coffee shops and foodie spots.

Alyssa Santos

Program Coordinator

Katie is very excited to be working with City Youth Now as the Program and Communications Coordinator. With a BS in Anthropology from The George Washington University, Katie spent the past year and a half living and working in Paraguay and Argentina. Driven by causes pertaining to social and environmental justice, and intersectional gender equality, Katie brings forth professional skills in photojournalism, content development, and social marketing to shed light on these complex issues. She is also training to become a yoga teacher in the hopes of one day bringing healing arts to underserved communities. In her free time, Katie enjoys adventuring outdoors, writing, and drawing.
