Hope and Healing Through Live Music — Julliard at SF JJC
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — July 22, 2008 — City Youth Now is pleased to announce an upcoming collaboration with fellow bay area non-profit, Bread & Roses. On July 29th, Bread & Roses and City Youth Now will sponsor a team of dancers from The Julliard School in New York City to the San Francisco Juvenile Justice Center (JJC). All of the youth detained at the San Francisco JJC will partcipate in the all school assembly made possible through the San Francisco Unified School District.
The New Creation Collaboration through Bread & Roses will be sponsoring performances July 26th through August 10th around the Bay Area. The Julliard dance troupe comprised of three dancers, an administrator and one actor, toured nine cities in the Bay Area. On the 29th, the dancers will perform choreographed and improvised pieces to inspire and stimulate the imaginations of the detained youth in San Francisco.
About City Youth Now:
Founded in 1950, City Youth Now is a nonprofit organization that addresses the needs of youth under the jurisdiction of San Francisco's Juvenile Court — including youth in the foster care and/or delinquency systems. Probation officers, social workers, attorneys, and others make grant requests for youth under their supervision. City Youth Now grants range from clothing for a youth who is leaving Juvenile Hall, to tutoring or music lessons for a child in foster care. www.cityyouthnow.org
