SPECIAL PROGRAMS AT JUVENILE HALL

For several years, City Youth Now has sponsored author visits to the individual units and library at the San Francisco Juvenile Justice Center. In 2007, we took our mission statement one step further to sponsor numerous special programs for the incarcerated youth. The programs sponsored by City Youth Now at Juvenile Hall promote dignity, expose the youth to new opportunities and worlds they have never known, and provide a bright spot in their days.
Some of the programs we have sponsored this year include visits by:
- San Francisco Opera Guild
- Insect Discovery Lab
- San Francisco Zoo Mobile
- Musicians, artists, performers, and thespians.
- A chef
- The Cast of the Color Purple
- Abada Capoeira
- The Art of Yoga
- Bats Improvisation Workshops
- Sarah Dash
- Robin Williams
- Julliard Dance Troupe
The visits focus on educational enrichment and positive personal development, encouraging the youth to step outside their comfort zones to explore new things!

Sean, age 18, was embarrassed to smile in public because he had
a rotten front tooth. Thanks to Dr. Richard Hoedt Jr., who is willing
to donate his time and services, Sean now flashes those pearly whites
whenever he gets a chance. (He also tells us he has started brushing
twice everyday.)
Thank you Dr. Hoedt!
