PROJECT K.E.E.P

K.E.E.P stands for "Kids Emergency Essentials Pack."

Every month, over one hundred children in San Francisco are removed from their homes because of child abuse or neglect.

Some children are taken directly off the streets, some are taken from a school setting as a result of an abuse report, and others are removed from homes where criminal activity or domestic violence precipitate intervention—in any case these children are typically taken with nothing but the clothes on their backs. And, no matter how the protective custody is initiated, the experience is always disrupting and frightening for the child.

City Youth Now provides these children with a backpack of emergency essentials including: a nightshirt; a travel kit with toothbrush, toothpaste, comb and other essentials; a phone card; colored pencils; a notebook, drawing paper and pens; and, most important, a stuffed animal which can be a comfort during this frightening time.

As economic turn over and budget cuts severely impact the funding at the Child Protection Center, City Youth Now is dedicated to expanding this program to include nylon rain jackets, umbrellas, and sweatshirts to help these young people endure the chilly San Francisco weather. All things that the Center is not able to provide at this time.

To volunteer for Project K.E.E.P or make in-kind donations to the program, please contact our offices at info@cityyouthnow.org.

We love to be able to provide the backpacks and duffel's to our children, that they would not receive otherwise, and are grateful for the help with our ongoing clothing needs. Most of all we like the look on the children's face when they receive the items, their smile says it all. Catherine Cousart,
