Who is eligible to receive support from City Youth Now?

All youth ages newborn through 24 who are or formerly were (emancipated/aged out Foster Youth) under the jurisdiction of the San Francisco Juvenile Court System.

What is covered by City Youth Now support?

Support varies from case to case, however transportation, reimbursements, school tuition, computers (other than the Laptop Program), family trips, travel costs if not related to education, and amusement park passes are never covered by our funds.

Who is authorized to make a request?

City Youth Now accepts requests from social workers, probation officers, attorneys, judges, juvenile hall counselors, CASAs, and official youth advocates on behalf of youth in the San Francisco Juvenile Court System.

What is the maximum funding provided to individual youth per year?

City Youth Now limits funding per youth to $4,500 annually, however excpetions are made on a case by case basis. Other funding restrictions are listed below:

  • $300 towards graduation expenses per youth
  • 50% of summer camp fees for non-relative placements, maxing at $500
  • 75% of summer camp fees for relative placements, maxing at $500
  • $100 in emergency clothing per year
  • $100 towards school supplies per year
  • 3 months of recreation activities such as dance, gym, karate etc. per request period
  • $500 education enrichment per request period

Our year is based on the fiscal calendar running July through June.

Who will City Youth Now issue a check to when funding a grant request?

City Youth Now will issue a check to the organization, company, business, or store where the youth will be participating in the activity or from which they will purchase the items requested by the youth advocate. City Youth Now will not under any circumstance issue a check to the youth, parent, guardian, or care provider.

How may I obtain gift cards for youth under my supervision?

City Youth Now issues gift cards for clothing under emergency situations. Gift cards are not issued as incentives for youth or for any items other than emergency clothing.

May I submit my receipts to be reimbursed for purchases made for youth under my supervision?

No, City Youth Now does not issue reimbursement checks under any circumstance.

How may I receive support for youth under my supervision?

City Youth Now requires that all youth advocates submit a grant request form via email, fax or mail. Please be advised that requests under $300 are processed within 48 hours, all other requests will take 4-7 business days.

How do I know that my request has been recieved?

If you are faxing a request, please call to confirm that we have received the fax. If you are mailing in your request, please allow 2-3 days to call and confirm the request has been received. If you are emailing your request, you will recieve confirmation that it has been received.

If my request is approved, how do I receive the funds?

Requests will be mailed to the address indicated on the form unless you wish to pick up the funds. If you are picking up the funds, they will be left in the City Youth Now mail box at the reception desk at the Juvenile Probation Department (YGC) and may be picked up between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm.
