INDIVIDUAL GRANTS Education/Literacy

There is probably no goal more important than meeting the educational
needs of youth in the juvenile court system.
Increasingly, the school-age children we serve need help catching
up to grade level. Some children with learning disabilities require
specialized tutoring to help them stay in school. Other children,
from truly impoverished households, simply need clothing, books
or bus fare to ensure they will attend classes. City Youth Now
can provide funds to meet each of these needs.
Youth who are at risk of school failure are also at high risk for drug abuse, delinquency, violence, and early pregnancy. Your generous gift will help ensure that these youth complete high school is an especially important factor for successful youth development and adult self-sufficiency.

Jacob, age 17, is essentially raising himself. His father is deceased
and his mother is incarcerated.
Jacob knew he wanted to go to college and he had the opportunity
to go on a college tour with the Young Scholars Program. But,
there was no way Jacob could afford the cost of the program. Fortunately,
City Youth Now was able to cover half of his expenses and the
Young Scholars Program helped him fundraiser for the rest.
We are excited to report that Jacob will be attending Langston
University in the fall.
