Please help us welcome Teresa Au to the City Youth Now board of directors 🎉🎉

Teresa is a long-standing advocate for women, historically excluded and underserved communities. She is a strong believer in giving back and finds helping others extremely rewarding, fulfilling, and essential. Teresa immigrated to the U.S. from Hong Kong when she was 8 years old. She grew up in New York City and has been bi-coastal for most of her life, currently living in San Francisco. Her passion has always been advocating for others. Before her current role at Adobe driving customer empathy and advocacy, she was the Global Head of Employee Experience, Social Impact (philanthropy), and Community Engagement at AppDynamics/Cisco, where she was also a founding member and co-lead of the Women@AppD employee resource group. Her greatest joy is spending time with her son whom she loves to the moon and back.

We are so fortunate to have Teresa’s voice and expertise on our board.

This year we will be virtually visiting 6 colleges over 3 days! This highly interactive program will include representatives from schools, virtual campus tours and opportunities to win gift cards! Participants who join us for all three days will be entered into a raffle for an iPad. 🥰😊

When City Youth Now was founded in 1950 we were a 100% volunteer led organization! Over the years we’ve grown to have a small team of employees but, our work is still very much volunteer led!

Pat & David have been working with us for over 4 years! From donation drop offs to administrative support to closet clean outs they help our organization run smoothly and provide much needed support for our staff. We can’t thank our volunteers enough for all the ways they help us grow our impact and create meaningful partnerships with youth.

Did you know that 127 young people in the local SF

Did you know that 127 young people in the local SF community are transitioning out of the AB12 program?

AB12 created California’s extended foster care program which allows eligible youth experiencing the child welfare and probation systems to remain in foster care until age 21 so that they can continue to access critical support and services. Many were able to remain in the program after turning 21 due to the pandemic.

Our virtual cooking & nutrition series with @18reasons will resume next month 🥑🫑🥒🥬🥦🥗🍽 Previous participants have shared such great feedback that we knew we had to offer this again. 👩🏾‍🍳👨🏼‍🍳🧑🏽‍🍳

This program is open to youth and young adults ages 15-22 that are currently living in San Francisco. Participants will have groceries delivered to their homes on the Tuesday before each session. Each participant will earn a $100 Safeway gift card at the conclusion of the series that can be used to buy groceries to continue buying and cooking healthy and nutritious meals. 🎁

After graduating with a BA in Human Ecology, she moved to the Bay Area where she has found work at a circus school, in a cafe, at a nonprofit, at the beach, and in art studios all over. With this range of interest and experience, Emily has developed a personal mission to learn and work alongside others in support of our communities becoming more empowered, liberated and connected to each other and the environment. Her other passions include dancing, rock climbing, making art and learning new things.

Our personal finance for teens course is beginning in a few weeks and we are so excited about the content and learning with the youth. 🎉 We ask a few of our Young Professionals Board Members to share one thing they wished they had learned about money 💰 as a teen. If you’re 21 or older what’s one thing you’d wish you knew earlier?

With CV-19 cases still on the rise in San Francisc

With CV-19 cases still on the rise in San Francisco we are working hard to ensure that youth employed through our paid internship programs are prepared, educated and well-informed. Each youth is being provided with proper PPE and safety equipment as well as guidance for testing, safety measures and best practices.

As we all continue to navigate the challenges brought on by CV-19 it is also important that we remain flexible, understanding and kind. 🙂 Our office is open by appointment only at this time and we are asking that you extend flexibility as we try to get everyone scheduled in over the next few weeks.

Our 2022 scholarships are now open! Annually we provide 8-10 scholarships to students pursuing higher education. Applications are open until April 1st at 5p.

Applicants must be residents of San Francisco unless they are currently experiencing the San Francisco foster or juvenile justice systems and are placed outside of the city. Students ages 17-22 that are experiencing financial barriers to higher education and have no experience in the juvenile court system are welcome to apply. Scholarships can be used to fund college education, workforce development programs, training programs or certifications.
